Profile of Garment Development in Ningbo

| Ningbo is an important garment manufacture, process and export base in China, and it has formed an industrial cluster covering shuttle knitting, household textile, wool and cashmere, which manufacture suit, shirt, trousers, women’s wear, leisure wear, business wear, children’s wear, underwear, craft garment and leather & fur wear. At present, the city has a total of more than 3,000 garment manufacturers, including 80 enterprises with the annual output above RMB 10 million, and it is capable of manufacturing 1.5 billion various garments every year. Although the total number of the garment enterprises is less than 5% of that in China, their sales volume has surpassed 12%. In the year 2005, the city achieved export worth of US$ 5 billion, accounting for around 15% of that nation wide. During the first half of this year, the total export of the entire city has amounted to US$ 3.57 billion, up by 23% over the previous year, being No. 3 in China in terms of the growth. The products are sold well in more than 200 countries and regions in Europe, America, Southeast Asia, Middle-East and the rest of the world. Over 65% of the products are export-oriented, taking the leading position in China. OEM has become a major platform for Ningbo garments to go abroad. In Ningbo, 90% of the garment enterprises are engaged in OEM manufacture, whose export exceeds US$ 4 billion, 80% of the total garment export throughout the city. |
